 Toshiba Satellite Pro 80486
Last week I was handed a business card from a person looking for an old 486 laptop. I watched and waited and nothing materialized.
Then, this Toshiba appeared. Good screen, good floppy drive and 200MB hard drive. 8MB of RAM, properly erased and handed a fresh install of DOS 6.22.
In literally a jiffy, customer served. They’re on vacation, but have a message waiting on voicemail.
THAT’S Nextstep’s Re-Use In Action!

 Portable LCD Workstation PC
This week’s Rescued Relic is a high-end Portable Workstation made by Jiwoo for Broadax Systems Inc. Made around the year 2001, it’s a PC tower with a handle and built-in 14 inch LCD screen, making it more of a “luggable” than a portable.
ideally suited for Point Of Sale,KIOSK, Banking, Medical, Factory Floor and Telecom (phone/internet) industries.
It was a Pentium III 800mhz. machine with 128MB of RAM. I upgraded it to a 1000mhz. CPU with 768MB of RAM and added Ubuntu Linux as the operating system.
When new, this workhorse probably cost in the neighborhood of $2500.00.

On December 5th 2007 a sinus infection burst through the wall of Yona Riel’s brain, leaving her unconscious. I was discovered 4 and a half days later.
Yona’s art will be at an art show on the 27th of August at 5 PM held at The Voyeur on 547 Blair St. The show at The Voyeur documents the work she did leading up to her Traumatic Brain Injury and some work that she has done since.
“Smoking Dress” was made in 2003 by unrolling cigarettes and using the tiny papers to construct a dress. the burnt edges look like ruffles.

“Angel in my Tea(bag)” is constructed using Starbucks silk teabags, a napkin, and very thin sheets of metal around the edge rescued from a copper or brass radiator that was pulled apart.

In adition to pieces like these, Yona will show photographs she took during the Dios de Los Muertos celebration in Oaxaca.

Jesse Radonski:
Jesse Radonski (@J__Rad) is a senior at the University of Oregon majoring in public relations. When not busy doing copious amounts of homework, he can usually be found at his part-time job, the CD/Game Exchange. He has worked there for over six years and has found it to be quite an interesting experience.
The CD/Game Exchange does more than just sell media to people at an affordable price. They’re a small hardworking staff that helps people. Sometimes people just want to buy a present for their child. Others come in needing to sell some of their media in order to pay a bill or to get some quick cash before leaving town for a camping trip.
His knowledge of music, movies, and video games has greatly increased because of working there. He likes to pass this knowledge on to friends, family and customers. He was also the loud rock format director at the UO campus radio station, KWVA, for about six years. In that time he has worked with Relapse Records and Metal Blade Records on obtaining new albums for the store to sell. In his spare time, I like to play video games, watch movies, drink craft beer, listen to podcasts and surf the Internet.

CD Game Exchange:
The CD/Game Exchange is a buy/sell/trade retail store that sells used and new compact discs, vinyl, digital video discs, video games and accessories. The CD/Game Exchange also sells other music and movie memorabilia such as t-shirts and posters.
The CD/Game Exchange incorporates the concept of supply and demand into everyday business practices. The more of the same item it has in the store, the cheaper the item. If it’s a popular item, it will sell at a higher price; if consumers are all selling the same item, its value lowers. The CD/Game Exchange believes this helps people find a better deal instead of waiting for a blowout sale.
The majority of items the CD/Game Exchange sells are used items. Many items still sell at a brand new price in the store, but some would agree the intrinsic value of an item sometimes isn’t worth the brand new price that one would find at larger retail outlets. This same business model is similar to that of how Amazon sells used items through independent sellers. The CD/Game Exchange is open seven days a week in downtown Eugene on 11th & Willamette.
Find them on their Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/CDGameExchange.

Most who are familiar with Junk to Funk know them as the Recycled Fashion Show Contest; an annual competition of wearable art and couture fashion created out of trash. They are currently undergoing the process of expanding beyond the singular event into a year round organizational business model with new programs and services.
Just like it sounds, trashion is a combination of trash and fashion – trash fashion. Junk to Funk is a thought leader collective using trashion innovation as a way to drive the movement for us all to think differently about being consumers.

 My Ride In L.A.
My history starts in 1953. It’s amazing to realize, when I ponder it, what did not exist in my lifetime, and what was created during my growth through the 60′s, 70′s, 80′s, 90′s etc.
When you think about what was not then, what is now, it makes you think.
Listen in and I will share My Slice of History. I hope you find it interesting no matter what your age.
