Yona Riel

Yona Riel demonstrating her piece. On December 5th 2007 a sinus infection burst through the wall of Yona Riel’s brain, leaving her unconscious.  I was discovered 4 and a half days later.

Yona’s art will be at an art show on the 27th of August at 5 PM held at The Voyeur on 547 Blair St. The show at The Voyeur documents the work she did leading up to her Traumatic Brain Injury and some work that she has done since.

“Smoking Dress” was made in 2003 by unrolling cigarettes and using the tiny papers to construct a dress.  the burnt edges look like ruffles.

“Angel in my Tea(bag)” is constructed using Starbucks silk teabags, a napkin, and very thin sheets of metal around the edge rescued from a copper or brass radiator that was pulled apart.
